    Global Learning Event

    On October 18, CGE hosted an Innovations in Global Learning event at the Graduate Research Innovation District (Grid) with Transform Mid-Atlantic.

    Global learning is a movement to expose more students to global ideas and concepts in their day-to-day curriculum, an approach that took off during the pandemic.

    The event, organized by Amy Ramirez, Executive Director of Global Learning and International Services, included examples of global courses at UMB, as well the launch of the first Global Citizenship Initiative from Transform Mid-Atlantic (formerly Mid-Atlantic Campus Compact). The global courses featured included:

    • Surgery: Global Health's Neglected Stepchild
      Dr. Shailvi Gupta, Assistant Professor of Surgery, School of Medicine
    • Environmental Justice, Human Rights and Public Health Legal Theory and Practice Seminar with Chancellor College in Malawi
      Peter Danchin, Jacob A. France Professor of Law and Director, International and Comparative Law Program, School of Law
    • IPE Care in Geriatrics – Aging in Place Program with the University of Helsinki
      Dr. Daniel Mansour, Interprofessional Clinical Coordinator for the Peter Lamy Center on Drug Therapy and Aging, School of Pharmacy
    • Global Content in First-Year Dental Course
      Dr. Kate Noonan, Senior Director, Special Projects for the Dean, and Dr. Fotini Anagnostopoulos-King, Clinical Assistant Professor, School of Dentistry
    • Cross-Cultural Qualitative Research with Prince of Songkla University in Thailand
      Dr. Deborah Gioia, Associate Professor, School of Social Work
